Rush Dew Holt Political CartoonsConnect to Collection
Rush Dew Holt served as a West Virginia state legislator from 1931-1935 and 1954-1955, as well as a U.S. Senator for West Virginia from 1935-1941. He was the youngest person ever popularly elected to the U.S. Senate, at age 29.
During the course of his relatively brief career in politics, Rush Holt was the subject of literally hundreds of political cartoons in newspapers across America. The originals of many ended up in his personal papers and are now preserved in the West Virginia and Regional History Center at the West Virginia University Libraries. This digital collection makes 131 of these political cartoons publically accessible.
